  Pre Kharif Drought in Bangladesh

The wide range of agricultural crops grown in the Rabi and pre-Kharif periods become vulnerable to drought at varying degrees. In drought prone areas, farmers prefer to grow drought resistant crops. Among them, Lentil, Gram, Sesame, Sugarcane, and Millet crops are the most common grown in these areas. But there are other major crops, which need irrigation because of their pronounced vulnerability to drought. Wheat, Potato, and Mustard are the major Rabi crops that suffer drought stress due to an unfavorable agroclimate. BARC has determined the yield reduction of these crops for different drought prone classes through a computerized model, subsequently ground truthed by the specialists of the Wheat Research Center and the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI).
